If I could give one piece of advice to new singers, I would say never try to imitate whatever the latest singing trend is. For example if all the new singers coming out sound like Amy Winehouse, you might be tempted to alter your vocal style in order to sound closer to the current 'in-sound', but don't do that! Commit to your unique sound and live in that space....by all means develop your sound.... but at the end of the day the only thing that lasts in music is authenticity.
